Dr. MELISSA BICKETT –
Track & Field
A two-time All-American in the discus at the University of Michigan, Bickett is a 2001
graduate of Revere High School. Captured the 2004 Big Ten discus title and participated in the
U.S. Olympic Trials.

ALEX GEDEON -
Football
Graduated from Hudson High School where he was named the Cleveland Plain dealer
and Akron Touchdown Club Player of the year. Earned a scholarship to Harvard University
where he excelled in football, was named team captain as a senior and graduated in 2012. Helped
Harvard win a pair of Ivy League Championships and was twice named to the All-Ivy League
and All-Ivy League Academic Teams.

PETE GUTHRIE –
Wrestling / Wrestling Coach
Began his collegiate career in wrestling at the College of Wooster where he earned a
runner-up finish in the Ohio Conference Tournament at 167 pounds. After transferring to Akron
he earned All-America honors by placing third at the NCAA Small College Championships. He
returned to the University of Akron as Head Wrestling Coach from 1969-1975.

CHARLES HANKTON –
Track & Field
Graduated from Barberton High School in 1990 and went on to have a stellar career at
Kent State University. He was a two-time team MVP and team captain for the Golden Flashes
earning All-American honors at the NCAA National Championships in 1994 with a school
record setting triple jump of 53’3”

LONNIE JOHNSON –
Football
A graduate of Akron North High School who went on to play Big 10 football at the
University of Indiana under legendary coach Lee Corso. Was named First Team All-Big 10 by
the Chicago Tribune after rushing for 1075 yards as a senior. Rushed for over 200 yards in a
game, three times as senior and was named the Sports Illustrated Collegiate Player of the Week.
Drafted by the Chicago Bears and played for three seasons in the USFL.

YONTAMI JONES –
Coaching / Basketball
An outstanding athlete who graduated from Akron Kenmore High School where she won
12 varsity letters in basketball, track & field and volleyball. Went on to play basketball at the
University of Akron (1990-94). As a coach she led Kenmore and Kenmore/Garfield to seven
City Series Titles and earned City Series Coach of The Year Awards in basketball (2004, 2007,
2009, 2019) and track & field (2000). She was named Summit County Coach of the Year in
2007 and 2008 and was chosen as the Clem Caraboolad Award recipient in 2019.

JIMMY OLIVER –
Basketball
Three year letter winner at Purdue University where he was a 1 st Team All-Big 10
selection. Helped his team capture the Bronze Medal at the 1998 FIBA World Cup and was
named the MVP of the European League Korac Cup. A second round draft pick of the
Cleveland Cavaliers, he played professionally for seven years in the NBA and for ten teams
overseas.

SIRI TERJESEN –
Marathon Runner
Graduated from Revere High School in 1993 where she competed in track and cross
country. She went on to become a renowned marathon runner winning more than 40 marathons
worldwide. Was named the 2003 British Ultrarunner of the Year and the Australian Ultrarunner
of the year in 2006. Posted the fastest 50K time for an American woman in 2006 and the fastest
100K time for an American woman in 2003.

RALPH PAULK –
Andy Palich Memorial Service Award
A well-known local sports journalist, Paulk has won numerous awards for his writing and
coverage of Summit County athletes, coaches and teams. He is an active community member
who has volunteered as a member of Akron’s Tiretown Golf Charities, the NAACP and USMC
Toys for Tots Charitiy. He currently serves as the President of Tiretown Golf Charities.

CHUCK NOVAK –
Phil Dietrich Senior Athlete Award
A graduate of Stow-Munroe Falls High School and Walsh University. Captured 800M
championships in the USATF Indoor National Championships (Men’s 50-54) and National
Senior Games (Men’s 55-59) and was a member of the record-setting (Men’s 50-54) 4 x 800M
relay team. Set the National Senior Games record in the Men’s 55-59 1500M with a record-
setting time of 4:18.55.

ROBERT “Doc” GANDEE –
Ed Kalail Volunteer Award
Served as an active and dedicated member of the SCSHOF Board of Directors for 15
years. Doc was the Chairman of the Banquet Committee, Ticket Committee, Liaison Committee
and Membership Committee and also served on the Screening and Program Committees.
